The team is at the Microfluidics Association workshop
We are edging towards the half way mark of project Galileo and things are heating up! As we get ready to finalise our flow sensor prototype for our beta testers, the Galileo engineers spent 2 days at imec in Leuven, Belgium, at the Microfluidics Association workshop “Integration of sensors and electronics in microfluidics: Challenges and opportunities”.
We were particularly engaged in the feature session discussing microfluidic sensor integration. Representatives from biotech, European metrology institutes, standards institutes, consortia (MFMET) and research labs were present around one table to discuss how to best meet the challenges of melding high-level function and next-gen simplicity.
Key take-aways:
While gaps still exist between the 2 main groups of developers and users, progress is being made to establish common terminology and mutual understanding of technical capabilities and user needs.
The past years have seen the first ISO microfluidics standards being established, namely on microfluidic device and port geometries. There is a push for further principle standards, namely on metrological aspects, for which input from the whole microfluidics community is being sought.
We share common goals, so we appreciate opportunities like this for open dialogue with the many target groups who will benefit from the technology and be involved in its pathway to adoption. Many thanks to the Microfluidics Association and imec for organising this workshop.
